What are general responsibilities of a Director of Operations at Poly Labs? The Director of Operations will manage the day-to-day activities of the manufacturing process to assure that safety and best practices are maximized.
Ensure the best use of organization resources are used in defining and planning goals, objectives, and programs to achieve growth and profitability.
This position works closely with other members of our production, management, and leadership teams, and reports directly the CEO.
Typical hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 6:
00am to 4:
30pm.
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS ESSENTIAL DUTIES & PRIMARY
Responsibilities:
Review all work orders prior to going to the floor.
This is done in conjunction with the Production Manager, Production Control Clerk, QC Manager, and Material Handling.
Once work orders are approved by the Production Manager, the Production Control Clerk will create the weekly schedule to be distributed accordingly.
Coordination with Production Control, materials on order, and components needed to complete jobs.
Review and prioritize production schedules per sales orders, and resource commitments.
Ensure daily product availability goals are met through execution of the production schedule plan and directly support inventory goals.
Responsible for working with the production Manager for the daily production operations of the manufacturing floor and all its components.
Responsible for overseeing the planning capacity and department operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing of products.
Monitors process and procedures and maintains certifications for proper tracking and identification of materials and products.
Significantly reduce the costs of poor quality in all facets of manufacturing.
Work directly with QC and Production to facilitate.
Develop and implement strategies to increase efficiency, maintain quality and ensure continuous improvement of policies, systems, and procedures.
Define equipment and capital investments required with each department to support manufacturing and service.
Support ongoing Safety program, including roll out of enhanced initiatives including physical audits and other initiatives.
Review production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems.
Develop or revise Standard Operating Procedures.
Maintain awareness of related programs and projects that directly affect areas of responsibility.
Oversee all Production areas, Maintenance, and Engineering to ensure all areas meet customer order requirements on time.
Monitors and improves cost of production, quality of products produced.
Seeks ways to improve process time and efficiency of operations.
Works with Material Handling to oversee hazardous waste documentation compliance:
verify monthly weights, assure drums are labeled and stored properly, and maintenance of logs.
Coordinate with sales on deliveries to reduce late times.
Troubleshoot problems as they arise on the floor with Maintenance and Engineering using manuals, components, prints, etc.
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS TRAINING, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND/OR
Experience:
At least five to ten years of experience in operations, including quality control administration in a mechanical trade or an equivalent combination of education and experience to include graduation in machine trades from a vocational technical institution.
Engineering degree a plus.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Experience in Polyurethane products helpful.
Organizational skills, ability to coordinate, schedule, prioritize work and follow up.
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS OTHER DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Physical surroundings require exposure to elements such as noise, heat, cold, dust and hazardous machinery.
Continuous walking, standing, stooping, pushing and pulling, reaching and short periods of uncomfortable physical conditions.
Must be able to bend, lift, and carry products, which may weigh between 5 and 30 pounds.
Performs other related duties as required.
Hire, coach, delegate, support and develop direct reports, and create an atmosphere dedicated to continuous improvement, in a manufacturing environment.
Monitors attendance with department heads, punctuality, conduct, growth and completion of tasks.
Approves recommendations of pay increases and terminations of employees.
Works with Production Manager to authorize overtime hours as needs warrant.
